Famously lauded as “the most beautiful car ever made” by Enzo Ferrari, the E-type is possibly the most iconic of the British sports cars. The perfect combination of beauty, high performance and reasonable pricing made it one of the most well-loved cars of all time. Based on the three-consecutive Le Mans-winning D-type race cars, the E-type was designed to be light. The front subframe carried the engine and the front suspension and bodywork were bolted directly to the tub making its power to weight ratio the stuff of legend.

The Series 2 changes were introduced in 1968 largely due to changes in US Traffic Safety laws. For other companies, this meant distinct US versions of their models, but Jaguar decided to apply the changes as a blanket, model-wide facelift instead. Bare headlights, a full length rear bumper, enlarged grille, twin electric fans, improved brakes and larger, repositioned tail lights and front indicators all made the series 2 safer and US compliant. The interior is differentiated by the newly collapsible steering column mounted ignition switch which included a steering lock, plastic rocker switches and seats with the option for head restraints. Under the bonnet, the cam covers went from smooth and polished to a fashionable industrial ribbed appearance and both 3.8 and 4.2 versions of the six-cylinder engine were available. It is worth noting, that US versions were de-tuned so the resulting horsepower was 246 vs 265. Production numbers are 4,855 FHCs, 8,628 OTS (open two-seaters aka roadsters), 5,326 2+2s. Yes, many of the changes were dictated by US code, but they really served to improve comfort, usability and practicality making the Series 2 an altogether more pleasurable and manageable driving experience.

Forever an iconic piece of British history, the E-type evokes images of winding country roads and the elegance of a bygone era. This immaculately restored, matching numbers car is the perfect weekend partner rain or shine. We are very familiar with this car and sold it to its most recent owner. It recently underwent a full refurbishment including a bare-metal respray, full re-trim, engine rebuild and refurbishment of all of the mechanics. The resulting car is stunningly presented and an absolute joy to drive.
