1963 Ferrari 250 GTE 2+2 by Pininfarina

The 1963 Ferrari 250 GTE 2+2 is a stunning grand tourer that combines classic Ferrari styling, performance, and luxury. Designed by Pininfarina, it was Ferrari’s first true 2+2 GT, offering additional rear seating while maintaining the sleek lines and sporty characteristics of the 250 series. Powered by the legendary Colombo V12 engine, the 250 GTE delivers an exhilarating driving experience with its smooth power delivery, lightweight chassis, and precise handling. As one of the most elegant Ferraris of its time, the 250 GTE 2+2 remains highly collectible and admired by enthusiasts worldwide.

The Ferrari 250 GTE 2+2 first premiered at the Paris Salon in 1960 and offered a radically different configuration for the storied Maranello marque. This car was the first factory-produced four-passenger Ferrari and offered the company entry into a previously unavailable market – that of the luxury grand touring car.

With a Colombo-designed Tipo 128E V-12 producing 240 bhp and a four-speed manual gearbox with overdrive, the 250 GTE provided Ferrari-worthy performance in a more comfortable overall package.

This would become the most commercially successful Ferrari of the time, with 954 produced in three series between 1960 and 1963. This car was to be the predecessor of the 330 Ferrari series, including the 330 GT America and the 330 GT 2+2. Clearly this car represents the superlative combination of luxury and speed for which Ferrari would become world-famous in the coming decades.

Chassis no. 04611, the car presented here, was completed in May 1963 and was delivered to the Italian Ferrari dealerCrepaldi, Milan.

This 250 GTE has received a full bare metal re-spray in the original color Grigio Fumo (20294). The paint finish is truly outstanding and really does need to be seen to be appreciated. Under the bonnet the engine bay is likewise detailed to show standards with excellent compressions to all 12 cylinders as evidenced by the compression test.

The interior has also been re-trimmed in recent years in the original color of Arancia Hide (VM3014) making it a very pleasant place to be. A full set of original period instrumentation is in place with the odometer indicating 87, 000 KMs.

04611 is a correct matching numbers series three car which is differentiated from the previous models by having the “big valve” engine making it the most powerful of the 250 GTE’s and exterior upgrades included the fog lights placed outside the grill to the inside of the headlights and rear tail lights also became one unit whereas on the first two series the tail lights where 3 bulbs in a vertical line.

The car is residing in a prominent Austrian collection containing only top condition cars that we have been tasked to sell.
